Sarah Northland Age Group Championships 20-22 January 2012 Results update from Ramona We had eight competitive swimmers from Manaia Swim and Surf team attend this meet, who did us proud in their behavior. It was great to see all the swimmers support each other, I am pretty sure we top the noisiness club, when it came to cheering our swimmers on. There were some great results with everyone managing a least one PB (Personal Best) time. Madeline our youngest swimmer had a great weekend, winning two 5th place ribbons out of three races she entered. Good Effort Madeline. Dillon had the most PBs over the weekend. Well done Dillon, he also received several ribbons for placing’s 4th 5th and 6th. Josie and Leah had a huge amount of competition in their age group. It was lovely swimming by both girls over the weekend. Watch out Rising Stars, here they come. Matariki was one of shining stars over the weekend, she swam a beautiful 50m breast stroke on Friday night and would have qualified for New Zealand juniors, but unfortunately the nerves got the better of her and she moved on the blocks and was disqualified. She made up for this error by swimming a lovely 100m breaststroke and doing a PB. Matariki made the finals and swam a lovely 100m breast stroke in an New Zealand Juniors time. Excellent effort Matariki, your summer training has paid off. Now onto the old guns in the club. Nicole, Chantz, and Logan Nicole had an exceptional meet, winning a gold medal in 100m fly and doing a 6 sec pb. She also won bronze in her 50m back. Nicole focus is to do really well at Rising Stars and with the way you swam this weekend Nicole you are certainly on track. From early on in the meet Chantz injured his left shoulder and struggled to swim to his potential. He had made several finals, but ended up withdrawing from these swims due to his injury. Chantz was withdrawn from all his swims on Sunday, but still came along to support the swimmers. Thank you Chantz, your presence was felt. Logan had a very successful meet. He qualified in 50mbreaststroke and 50m Fly for Div 11. Logan swam his 50m fly beautifully, only taking his first breath at the 25m mark. It is great that Chantz will have some company when he goes down to this meet. Well done Parents, Grandparents and supporters, without your support as officials and giving up your weekend the swimmers wouldn’t of achieved such great goals. Cheers Ramona |
